CompletePT-Newsletter: October 2010
|
Dear Patients and Subscribers,
I'd like to welcome you all to our first e-newsletter.
2010 has been a year in which CompletePT has virtually re-invented itself in every way. The next time you visit the clinic, you will see a brand new reception desk, a new steam room in the women's locker room, and most importantly our new pool that is longer and deeper! Immediately across from the pool we have is a new unisex changing room where spouses or aides of an opposite sex can help patients get dressed before and after their pool sessions. And you'll meet our two new physical therapists, Virginia Gamble, MSPT and Ami Shah, DPT.
Our new electronic medical records system makes it easy for us to print your schedule as well as give you accurate billing information on site. Don't be surprised to see the therapists using laptops beside the pool instead of paper charts. We are fully electronic now, including our newsletter. Enjoy!
Sincerely, Lynda Huey, Owner CompletePT Pool & Land Physical Therapy

Even After Being Diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis Elise Shanfeld Will Not Back Down
By Elise Shanfeld
I've always counted on my exercise routine for my mental and physical outlet. When I was diagnosed a year ago with rheumatoid arthritis, I was horribly unhappy that I could no longer run or even do 15 minutes on the elliptical without both my knees swelling and hurting.
I was never a big fan of the water, but I've changed my opinion in the past three months. In deep water, I can run, power-walk, and move in ways I can no longer do on land. I can get my heart rate up high, work my muscles hard, and my joints don't complain later that day. Lynda Huey keeps adding new challenging exercises that keep me interested in coming back. Nothing else gives me such a great workout without hurting my inflamed joints. I'm going to start taking Waterpower Workout classes and make this a regular part of my life. |

|
James Cowan & Kristy Laing, DPT, Take the Prize
In September, CompletePT handed out its first Employee of the Month Star Trophy to James Cowan, our Director of Finance. James' high-level of computer expertise has helped us immeasurably as we have gone live with our new electronic medical records system. In October, the trophy went to Asst. Clinical Director, Kristy Laing, DPT, whose patience and preserverence continues to help all of the clinicians have the courage to take on electronic documentation.

CompletePT: on KNBC & WNBC News
|
Dr. Bruce Hensel, EmmyAward-winning TV journalist for KNBC, was one of the first reporters in 1988 to feature Lynda Huey's water rehabilitaiton work with Olympic Track and Field Athletes. So when he wasn't recovering well after a hip surgery that he televised on the news, he called his long-time friend to ask for help.
Lynda, along with physical therapists Kevin Wagner, MSPT and Kristy Laing, DPT, have been nurturing him back toward hip health. Dr. Hensel decided to feature us on the news, airing a 3-minute segment on September 28th and October 2nd in Los Angeles, and on October 3rd in New York.

Coming Soon: our newly-updated website on hip health
|
Orthopedist Robert Klapper, M.D. and Lynda Huey wrote Heal Your Hips: How To Prevent Hip Surgery - and What To Do If You Need It in 1999. At the same time, they created their website, www.hiphelp.com
Their goal is to help patients avoid injury, prevent deterioration, workout in water and on land, and understand the entire range of surgical options. A lot has changed since 1999, especially in the areas of hip arthroscopy, a field Dr. Klapper pioneered, starting in 1989. The website update will be completed first, followed by a new edition of the book. By reading our newsletter, you'll be one of the first to know when each is available. |
